PRIDEMAIL BASICS
PrideMail is the College's official email system. Consequently, you should regularly check your PrideMail account for a variety of
administrative (i.e., Financial Aid, Registrar's Office, etc.), class-related, student development, and campus-life
enrichment emails. You keep your Greensboro College email account throughout your time at the College.
PrideMail is available anywhere you have Internet access through http://pridemail.greensborocollege.edu so that you may send and receive email anytime.
PrideMail has many capabilities and an extensive help system built in.
Some of the features include:
- The ability to redirect PrideMail to another email account (use Rules). Be sure that "Keep a Copy" is UNCHECKED and "Preserve To/CC" fields option is CHECKED.
- Better yet, use the rules to control how your email is handled by setting up multiple mailboxes and filtering your incoming mail so it is organized when you are ready to read it. Help on setting up rules is available at http://pridemail.greensborocollege.edu/Guide/Rules.html.
Help on using PrideMail is always available by simply clicking on the "Help Icon" anywhere within PrideMail.
If you are entering the College in the Fall of 2007 or later, your email address is firstname.lastname@greensborocollege.edu (except in the case of common first and last name combinations), and your initial password is your student ID number.
OTHER EMAIL OPTIONS
The email server (that is, the computer where the email is actually received, stored, and maintained) also allows access to email through programs, called email clients, that allow you to view and manage your email on your computer.
We strongly recommend using our online email client at http://pridemail.greensborocollege.edu. Other email clents can be used to provide greater flexibility, more extensive features, and storage of folders on one's personal computer instead of leaving all email on the server. Mozilla Thunderbird is commonly used around campus. Netscape Mail and MacMail are some other email clients you may choose to use.
Until we can provide online helpsheets on the various email clients, please us the IT Support Request for assistance in configuring them.
If you already know how to configure your email client, the address for the IMAP, POP, and SMTP servers is: mail.greensborocollege.edu. We use the standard ports for each server. If you are off campus, you will not be able to use our SMTP server and will need to configure email to use the SMTP server provided by your Internet Service Provider.
